Green Design Products Will Make Your Home Eco-Friendly
As maintaining a green lifestyle becomes more and more popular, the average consumer is becoming more aware of the products they buy and how those purchases have an effect on the global environment. In following with this trend, these same consumers are also concerned with how energy efficient and eco-friendly their homes are. Many people are taking steps to ensure that their house performs in a more eco-friendly manner by using low energy options for appliances and lighting, replacing old, large hot water heaters with smaller energy efficient units, and by building or renovating using renewable or recycled resources. Anyone who is interested in making their home a greener environment can make some small changes that will make a very large difference.
Green design products have become increasingly popular among home owners and designers alike, making it very easy to find and purchase these items. The popularity of them also gives consumers a wide variety to choose from. One of the options that are available to consumers is American clay. American clay is an easily spreadable material that can be purchased in a wide variety of colors to be used on walls rather than paint. Paint contains many different properties including lead and other toxic properties that paint shares with plaster. American clay is inexpensive, easy to apply, and can allow you to not only “paint” your walls but also add a bit of texture or pattern without having to work through a second or even third step.
Another great idea for making your home a greener environment is to replace your old, outdated water heater with a small, compact, energy efficient model. Very often these new electric water heaters cost about the same as a traditional hot water heater, but they are more energy efficient, space-saving, and they can heat twice as much water using half of the energy. These units affix directly to the wall and heat water as it runs through the system, so it only heats as much water as needed rather than heating and storing water for later use that must be continually heated in order to maintain the temperature. These units are also much safer for you and your family as they do not use potentially toxic gases to operate or pose the same fire hazard that older units pose.
In reducing the energy that it takes to operate your home comfortably, many consumers have replaced their old, single paned window with energy efficient double paned windows. The new double paned windows provide excellent insulation for your home, omitting those pesky drafts and leakages which would cause your energy bill to rise. Though the new windows are more expensive to purchase and install than their single paned competitors, they will easily earn their keep by allowing you to save continuously on your energy bill, so do not be discouraged by the initial investment.
There are many different green design products available for anyone who is interested in making their home lifestyle a bit more eco-friendly. Many of the options available are not only available for purchase at around the same price as their competitors, but they will also save you money in the long run by being more energy efficient.
